The Dream
The Bluetown dream was to bring internet connectivity, and with it a higher standard of living, to people in remote locations across the globe.
The Solution
The dream of ‘connecting the unconnected’ – and bringing the multiple benefits of internet connectivity to the more than 3.5 billion people around the world who live without – was a dream that drove the development of Bluetown’s ingenious Wi-Fi hotspot masts. Operated 100 % by solar power, their Wi-Fi masts can be erected in rural villages and remote areas, establishing a Wi-Fi hotspot with a range of up to 1 km. This brings much-needed internet access to e-learning, e-health and e-governance, as well as mobile telephony, social media, and other content, improving communications, creating wealth and improving living standards for some of the world’s poorest people.
The status
The Bluetown platform is already in use in Africa and the Middle East, and is poised for large-scale deployment in remote rural areas all over the globe. In Q1 2016, Bluetown landed a game-changing contract with state-owned Indian telecommunications company BNSL, and will be delivering 12.5 thousand solar-powered Wi-Fi base stations to connect people who live in villages throughout rural India over the next 3 years. This is just the beginning.
